bauer_skates_1019659.gif

With camps and a new season soon approaching its time to start thinking about getting your gear ready to go.  The first thing you’ll probably want to check out and the most important too is skates.  With so many new technologies in a very competitive market, skate manufactures are pumping out some unreal skates for this year.  I decided to check out my local sports store and try some out.

Lets start out with Bauer.  This year they’re back with the “Bauer Supreme 8080”.  A very traditional looking skate with some very high high-tech lightweight feel.  Also the Vapor XX series is going to be another huge hit this season.  Being the #1 skate in the show, the lightest skate, and its unreal looks makes it a #1 contender for sure.CCM is back with their “Vector Pro” model.  With CCM’s F-I-T System® it combines heat and pressure for a “gapless” fit.  It’s lightweight, easy to break in, and is pretty stylish also.  Nike has expanded their “Quest” line up this year, leading the Quest line is the “Quest V-12”.  Nike says it offers its “ultimate” technology with this skate, and fits like a slipper, but in my opinion was far from that.  Not to mention it’s damn ugly too.  The Easton “Z-Air Comp” leads their line up being a very lightweight skate.  With its uni-body construction (shaped together rather than in separate parts) it makes for a very durable skate.  Easton’s patent Dry Flow technology lets moisture and heat out during a game.  And again, this skate has got some killer looks.  Last but certainly not least is Graf.  Graf released a new series of skates this year, the G-Series.  This is their most high-performance series yet and some of the largest amount of time and money put in to the research and development for this series.  In ways it’s a lot similar to the 700 series but the G-series offers a new “Integrated Teclite” construction.  This new construction is a new design, which uses the same heat moldable Thermolam platform from the 700 series but brings with it the new Carboframe construction combining a carbon fiber insole, aramid counter and carbon fiber outsole.  I thought the 700 series fit good…these new G-series boots are unreal.  After trying all these skates out my pick goes to the new Graf’s.  Nothing comes close to the new G-series fit wise.  A close second is the new Easton Z-Air Comps, an unreal lightweight skate with tons of comfort too. And in Third comes the Vapor XX’s.  Wicked all around skate with a cool looking boot.  So head down to where you get your gear and check these out.  You gotta remember, even with all this cool new technology mambo jumbo that most of you don’t even understand, every skate fits different for different players.  It’s all about what you like and what fits you the best…not what the pros are wearing.  Till next time…

Right now I'm wearing the Graf 703. They're extremely comfortable and they form to your foot after a few times. They have tons of extra ankle protection and thats always a plus. They're not that heavy either

Im wearing the nikebauer one90's. i tell yuh when i first got them they hurt like FUCK! but after a good skating on them, about 3 weeks, they are fuckin unreal wheel. best wheels in the league fellaz. last year i wore the XXX they were sikk. nike bauer or bauer is always true, best gear ever, even the twigs are unreal now. but yea everyone should wear one90's. graf's are aweful. ccm is sikk too but euro. mission is cheap. rbk is a gay wheel, jus because they are heavier, and seriously wut is a "pump" gonna do for you.....wow hold on boys i gotta pump up the wheels. thats a joke on a skate....not on kicks tho.ONE90'S WAY TO GO!!!!!!

The nike v12's are unreal, ive been wheeling a pair all season and i have nothing bad to say about them, they are light, comfortable and look unreal. The tuuk lightspeed runners are awesome. I got my v12s fitted to my feet to cut break in time in half. Anyways lads I think nike did pretty well with the v12's, they are unreal wheels.

When it comes down to skates i've always been a bauer guy. I have the Vapour XX and i will be sticking with them for a while. I think its going to be a while befor another skate comes out that takes over what the Vapour XX has done.

Thanks A Lot for the article

Although the Vapor xx skate is awesome i have been wearing the 7000's for awhile. There hasn't been a skate to top it yet and there are still a lot of pros wearing them due to this fact. Thanks for the write up on the skates well done.

a few more skates are coming out this year that are gonna be pretty tight. easton's releasing a synergy skate that is about 110 grams or so lighter than the XX and vector pro. It's an all composite boot and is supposed to be durable as hell. Also, Bauer is putting out a vapor 30 or XXX skate sometime too. Not too many details on that yet though. if anyone else on here is interested in new stuff like that or wants more reviews, check out www.modsquadhockey.com

I'm wearing a pair of the Graf Pro Goaler 750's and nothing fits anywhere near as good as those Grafs. Now, the 750's are based on the 700 series, anyone know if Graf has plans to come out with a goalie version of their G Series?

Also, has anyone worn a pair of Bauer Vapour gloves? I'm looking to replace my old Reactor 6's which have served me faithfully, but are finally past salvagability after having been rebuit and repalmed many times.

In response to Mike the goaltenders post, yes I've tried the new vapour gloves. I work at a sports store in Ontario, and we carry the new Vapour10 gloves. We've got them retailing at $99.99 canadian. Keep in mind that that is the Vapour TEN10TEN glove. Its mint. Everything about it is great. Each finger is broken down into 2 foldable slots, and the index has 3 for best mouvement. Not only do they look good, but they feel even better. If you, or anyone for that matter, happen to spot a pair, i strongly suggest that you try them on. I know where my next paycheck is going

Working in the industy and fitting some of the guys and girls on the board I would have to agree totally with Sean's assesment of the models out this year. Myself although not near the level of skating as some of you guys or girls the new Graf skates are awesome and very responsive. Sean's comment's on the other skates I feel is bang on. You have to remeber though not every skate is for every foot you must fit the skate for the foot type you have.
Good luck to everyone this season.
Jeff

Ive been a bauer guy since i can remember, but ive gotta say that i cant disagree more about the vapor XX. until those skates, i had broken maybe 2 blades. I broke 5 in those skates. The boot also broke down on me in less than 4 months. Working at a shop, ive seen that the vapor XXX are just the same, only theses are $500 disposable skates. I just picked up a pair of ccm v10s, and so far i couldnt be happier.
