Florida Everblade sophomore, Chris Lee has been chosen to represent the American Conference in this year’s East Coast Hockey League All-Star game.
In 33 games so far this season the 6-foot, 185-pound native of MacTier, Ontario has amassed 6 goals and 25 points with a plus/minus of +9.
This is quite a evolution for Lee, in only his second year of professional hockey making the all star team, considering he came from Division III hockey. For four years, prior to joining the Everblades, Lee attended SUNY-Potsdam of the NCAA. He racked up an impressive 41 goals and 115 points in just 110 games. Lee led the country in points his final year at Potsdam, making the Second team All American. On top of this, he was a forward for his last few years at Potsdam, and became a defenceman when he turned pro, making his rise to the top all that much more amazing.
Last season as a rookie Lee (better known as Boofer) battled for a regular spot in the first place Everblades line-up. Finally, head Coach Gerry Fleming acknowledged that Lee’s propensity to set up goals and his defensive play were too great to keep him out of the line-up. He finished the season playing in 68 regular season games scoring 5 goals and adding 22 assists.
Lee continued his strong rookie season right into the playoffs leading all defensemen with 2 goals and 11 points in 15 games. The Everblades made a run to the finals before eventually succumbing to the Trenton Titans in 6 games.
His lightning quick speed enables him to jump into a rush without fear of getting caught in the offensive zone. What makes Lee even more dangerous is his ability to play both forward and defence with a seamless transition.
This is but the first of many future accolades for the 25-year-old offensively minded defenseman who once played for the Parry Sound Jr.A Shamrocks.
The Fresno Falcons are the host for the 2006 ECHL All-Star Game presented by Bud Light on Jan. 25. The game will be played at the Save Mart Center and begins at 7 p.m. PT. If you have satellite make sure you check out the OLN, the station will be airing the game.
