Forward from Mac: Saintsy is a friend of the Gongshow boys and a real beauty from back home here in Ottawa, and he has been kind enough to share a excerpt from his personal (and private) blog for family and friends giving us a behind the scenes look at what is like to play your first game in the NHL. On a sidenote, check out in the video the size of Sainty's twig --he uses the maximum height allowed in the league and is also one of the smallest players.....

Well, thought I'd share with you me experience and my dream that came true since I was a lil kid from a small town playing hockey!
My life as you can tell is hockey, have been playing since I was 4 years old. Grew up watching the Montreal Canadiens and Ottawa Senators, and every lil hockey player growing up dream to play one game in the NHL.
Have been through lots of ups and downs, from playing competitive hockey when I was younger, have been told I was too small and that Ill never get anywhere in hockey let alone make a career out of it, have been told that I wasnt fast enough, not smart enough, etc. But being the guy that I am, all I did, with the advice from my parents and friends that believed in me, was use that as a motivation and kept pushing through and try to prove people that tried to put me down that I could do it!!
CONTINUED - READ ON TO FIND OUT HOW MARTY MADE IT TO THE NHL AND WHAT IT WAS LIKE IN HIS OWN WORDS.....
Finally, got a chance last year to play in Edmonton, in the AHL for the Edmonton Oilers affiliate team, but of course it was a little it different because there was no NHL. But sure enough that wasnt going to stop me...had a good year and was hoping to get another contract...sure enough...in August 2005, my agent called me telling me Norfolk, which is the Chicago Blackhawks affiliate team, wanted to sign me...so went to camp in September, played well and made the team. But for some reason, I felt good about it, even though being a rookie, I knew if i kept playing well that I migth get a chance to maybe realize my dream.
Sure enough, on November 3rd 2005, I get a call from my agent telling me that the Chicago Blackhawks want to offer me an NHL contract! i dont think I spoke on the phone for 2 mins...part of my dream was coming true...but there was still one more thing to accomplish.
Again, 30 mins later I get a phone call from my GM in Norfolk, telling me to meet him downstairs. Didnt really know what he wanted..maybe I was in trouble, but of course not. He has a paper and told me, "Son you're going to the big leagues, congrats". My jaw dropped, my legs went numb..haha told me my flight was friday morning for Dallas and that I was going to play my first NHL game vs the Dallas Stars!!
I go back to my room, called my parents who have supported me through everything, my mom had tears, my dad was sooo happy, called all my friends, they were set back to from all this...the lil guy from a small town east of Ottawa called Embrun, was going to be the first one from that region to play in the NHL.
Sure enough, I fly to Dallas meet my parents there and family that flew to Dallas to see me play. As i walk into the dressing room, all these NHL players who I've watched since i was a kid, were going to be my linemates for tonight's game. I start getting dressed, all the guys come up and wish me luck, still nothin has sunked in yet. I finally put on the Blackhawks jersey with the biggest smile on my face. as i go on for the game, my first step on the ice, I couldnt feel my legs, it was an unbelievable experience, looking across the ice to see all these NHL All-stars, thinking hey, you know what, I'm right there with them...
So finally everything sunked in, lil nervous, but played well, infront of 20 000 fans, what a great rink, awesome atmosphere, can't explain much more into words, never had so many butterflies in my stomach at once. The game ends, and as I get undressed, i was looking around the dressing room, and realized, NOW this is what I've been waiting all my life, this is the life, and thats why they call it "The Show", the NHL..and I just realized my dream, and will make a career out of it!!!
My parents and family waited for me after the game, and I don't think I've ever seen my parents so happy. Their commitment, and all those long hours in the cold hockey rinks in the mornings, ups and downs, sacrifices for me, their dream have come true too!! Seeing their son play his 1st NHL hockey game. Hugged them as long as I could, until we had to fly back to play Wayne Gretzky and his Pheonix Coyotes on the 6th.
It was awesome, and I still think about it everyday, and how gratefull I am do to what I love to do and make a career out of it! So if you ask me now, if I believe that anything can happen, I sure believe in that, anything can happen when you put your mind to it, doesnt matter how hard it is!!
But after all this, I'm still the same lil Marty that grew up in a small town!
**NO matter what happens to you..Always remember where you come from***
