As the Senators fans began to get restless after the Senators had lost 5 straight games,
they are beginning to go from restless to simply concerned and in some matters, quite embarrassed.
After a long time of high expectations from Senators fans, they are slowly starting to understand how
things work in National Hockey League. The last time the Senators lost 6 straight games was 7 years
ago in the 1999-2000 season. The Senators have lost 6 straight games, and are continuing to slump in almost every way.

While many Senators fans shouldn't become too concerned with where they are at the moment (still atop the Eastern Conference), but what Senators fans should be concerned with is their incredibly inconsistent play. While their top line seems to be producing in every way they can, their secondary scoring is lacking
tremendously, their goaltender looks poor to say the least, and their coaching looks to be starting to lose
some faith in their team.
With Alfredsson missing for 2 games, it sure was nice for the captain and "catalyst" of the team to
be back in action for Senators fans. As the Senators continue their slumping ways it seems that Alfredsson keeps climbing up the league leaders in goals (3rd) and points (6th). The captain has 7 points in his last 5 games, and continues to prove his worthiness and outright dominance on this hockey club.
The Senators need to be worried with their secondary scoring, as the top line has been good for 45% of the Senators total offense. Ottawa can usually depend on the likes of Antoine Vermette (who has only 2 points in his last 10 games), and Chris Kelly (who has 2 points in his last 11 games). Both of who, who have been outright invisible over this Senators slump.
The goaltender "controversy" in Ottawa really isn't much of a controvesy right now because as of now, both goaltender have been playing conclusively brutal at most points during this tough time. The coaching staff, and in particular John Paddock, has not made it much easier for either one of these goaltenders to get comfortable and/or confident. Every chance Paddock gets to switch or pull his goaltenders, he seems to welcome that opportunity. John needs to stick with a goalie and trust them in every part of the game, in order to get their confidence back up to par.
The Senators seem to be sitting back in their slumping ways for far to long these days, and they need to play with much more intensity, and much more desperate. If the Senators don't win soon look to see some major changes in the lines and possibly in the crease. |
