Mats Sundin is probably the hottest commodity to "supposedly" enter the trade market in a while, and he knows it. The much sought after Maple Leafs centre has the opportunity to go to a Stanley Cup Contender, something which the Leafs are not. If he really wants to do something for the betterment of the Toronto Maple Leafs, shouldn't he waive that no trade clause?
The way Sundin is playing right now, is more than anyone in Leafs Land expected from the 37, soon to be 38 year old centre. Most were thinking around a sub par performance from him, and got way more. This reason alone is why there are so many teams looking to fill a void in their line-up with Sundin's services. And that is why Sundin, who is an unrestricted free agent and the end of this season, should welcome the idea of being dealt. A banged up Peter Forsberg at last year's deadline cost the Nashville Predators, Scottie Upshall, Ryan Parent, and a first and third round draft pick. Those are two pretty good prospects, and that first round pick was traded back to Nashville in essence for Kimmo Timonen and Scott Hartnell. That's a BANGED up Peter Forsberg who always seems to be injured, what would the Leafs get for a HEALTHY almost never injured Mats Sundin. Sundin can have his chance at a Stanley Cup ring, and then after the season, re-sign with Toronto. It really seems all so simple from a fan's perspective, and it seems to be the right thing to do, but it all comes down to Mats Sundin and his choice to waive, or not waive his no trade clause. Please Mats, we love you here in T.O. but please help us out a bit. |
