For most hockey players and fans, March is one of the biggest months for hockey.
In the show, the trade deadline has past and teams are fighting for a playoff spot or clinching their division. The great teams separate themselves from the good teams before entering the playoffs where anything can happen.
For some college, university and junior leagues playoffs have already started. The older players are playing there final days of hockey and hoping to finish it off with a championship.
For the beer leaguers, a lot of the seasons are in the summer. They are getting hyped about the playoffs and when the Stanley Cup is lifted they know there season is just around the corner.
The weather gets a little nicer and some years you can get in a mix of pond hockey and street hockey in the same month. A great time for everyone involved in hockey.
For many people all over the world, March is just another reason to grow the stash. Many hockey teams around the country and world like to take part in Mustache March, similar to Movember. Over the year Movember has grown causing more money to be raised and more awareness of prostate cancer.
This March, I would like to see hockey teams around the world grow the stash for another great cause. It takes one player on the teams to bring up the idea and usually hockey players will be willing to help out a great cause, while having fun seeing the different mustaches around the dressing room.
Round up the team and pick a charity of your choice. Maybe a teammate’s family member has died and the team would like to donate to research for whatever the cause was. Collect money at the door of your games, collect it from the girls or whatever you can get money from.
I read an article on TSN by James Duthie about a young boy who died playing pond hockey due to not wearing a helmet ( http://www.tsn2.ca/columnists/james_duthie/?id=263827). A charity for this was started and that could be a possible charity for your team if you are looking for something tied in with the game.
Enjoy March Boys,
Make A Difference.
