The Kerrzy Report Oh, Canada
Posted by Kerrzy on Thursday, September 16, 2004
GSH Editorial

What a day for Canada. Unfortunately the big 3-2 win over the Fins didn’t cause much excitement down here in Australia, in fact the only talk of fins and Canadians since I’ve been here has been the locals telling me to look out for sharks in the ocean..

Nevertheless I was as pumped as anyone back home to hear about the big win and I took it as just another reason to be a proud Canadian although I am across the entire world from back home. The big day for Canadian hockey was a bittersweet day for those players on Team Canada, and just a plain shitty day for the rest of the NHL players as it marked the expiration of the current CBA and without a new one the season is in jeopardy.

This is good news for some though, like for instance the WHA who will hope to get a big boost from the lack of NHL hockey come October, but in all honesty I think that the WHA has got about as good a chance of getting something up and running as a 60-year old man who’s allergic to viagra. Do all the teams even have cities, rinks and players yet? It sounds about as organized as a blind guy vs. blind guy game of tennis.

Surprisingly, news of the lockout hasn’t stopped investors from shopping around for NHL clubs though as Howard Baldwin has been in talks with Disney to buy the Ducks. The ex-Penguins owner is one of a few investors interested in buying the Mighty Ducks for a reported $50-million, which is what they were worth when the organization originally formed in the early 90’s. Looks like he’s moving from one brutal bird to the other, but on the bright side I’m sure duck tastes a lot better than penguin when it gets burnt.

In one of the three big court cases of the summer involving the NHL, Katie Wolfmeyer is in court on charges related to conspiring with Mike Danton to hire a hit-man to kill his agent, Dave Frost. If you don’t recall, Wolfmeyer ended up hiring a guy who turned out to be a member of the Columbia, Illinois Police dispatch team who turned the two valedictorians in to the FBI soon after. Those puckbunnies aren’t always the smartest girls out there but I guess that’s why we love them.

As it turns out, her dad, Pat Wolfmeyer has allegedly been threatening witnesses at the trial, and as the old adage goes: the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. So far he has threatened two FBI agents and a member of the Columbia P.D. He sure knows how to pick ‘em I guess.

Moral of the story: Canada’s still #1, and in the case of that dynamic duo of Wolfmeyers, just stop talking or you’ll both end up in jail…actually scratch that talk even more, you know, to speed up that process.
