Who is really to blame??

I see that some people are verbally attacking whoever they can, blaming anyone and everyone for the cancellation of the NHL season. Let's be realistic here, there is only one possible person for blame here:Bob Goodenow. I am well aware of the fact the owners overspent on their own free will and I am well aware that Bettman's expansion plans were ill-conceived. What the PA fails to mention is that revenues have increased substantially since 1994. There are also 150 more jobs where the minimum salary is about $200 000,not too shabby, and of course there is that number where the players make an unprecedented 75% of league revenue.

Even to a non-businessperson,that seems to be a ridiculous number and that the business is in trouble.Any other business would have layoffs or paycuts but because Sideshow Bob has got his guys to drink the koolaid, the players dont recognize that. The guys just want to play hockey, most don't care whether the salary is 2 mil or 3 mil as long as they play. It was the high profile and salary guys like Chris Pronger,Jarome Iginla and Tie Domi who tried to get things going behind Goodenows back. If you took a player vote,I am confident a season would be a go. Goodenow would have never put the cap on the table or offer the rollbacks if not for behind the scenes scheming by high profile players to try to get things done. I see the guy on TV saying the union gave up a lot, which they did,but if it was up to Goodenow,he would have stuck with his original position the whole way through to win a personal war with Bettman .

Now,I am not a huge Bettman fan either but at least he's trying to fix the money situation and the game. There is nothing wrong with owners making money. After all, they are taking all the risk. There is nothing wrong with players making money as people come out to see them. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a cap with linkage because,in a partnership, as the money situation gets better, everyone makes more. The NFL and NBA player reps figured this out and do a lot better then the NHL. So why has Goodenow not agreed to this? it's personal for him and its not about the game,it's about him winning. Both have to go but Goodenow has to go right now!!
