Don’t you hate it when your favorite team comes out with a redesigned jersey, leaving behind a beauty older one? Fans in Buffalo sure do, and so when word came out of the Sabres front office that they would have to put up with ANOTHER redesigned team logo, some people were upset…when they SAW the new logo, a petition was started. READ MORE...

TSN’s Jay Onrait called it the "Buffaslug," one of the worst redesigns in sports history, up there with the original Mighty Ducks “Wild Wing” third jersey; he says someone else at TSN likened it to the hat that Fred Flinstone wore to the Grand Poobah meetings on the Flintstones.

One loyal Sabres fan has had enough.

Drew Celestino was so appalled by the “horrid design” that would be the new Sabres logo that he started an online petition at www.fixthelogo.com, and he found out he was not alone in his disgust.

By the end of July, his petition had beyond 25,000 signatures!

Personally, I think it looks like an abstract artist’s rendering of the NFL’s St. Louis Rams logo with the horn turned the other way.

It must have caught the attention of somebody, because near the end of July the Sabres announced that they would go vintage for a part of the 2006-2007 season. The old blue and yellow with the crossed-swords and charging white buffalo. How many games? Fifteen. According to Celestino’s website, that does not include the playoffs or any televised games. Good enough?

“[Fifteen] games. That is all that those in the Buffalo Sabres front office believe our team's history, tradition, and namesake are worth. The Sabres’ decision…is unsatisfactory…”
“Fix the Logo dot com is now more than ever dedicated to seeing this wrong corrected. We encourage all Sabres fans to speak out against this symbol, as it resembles neither a buffalo, nor a sabre.”

But Drew, maybe once the season starts, people will buy the jersey anyways? Celestino’s crew has that base covered:

“Fix the Logo dot com reminds all fans to enthusiastically support the Buffalo Sabres, but encourages all Sabres fans to purchase only merchandise bearing the original logo, with its crossed-swords and charging white buffalo.”

"Vote with your wallet. Tell the front office that your money will not be wasted on this shameful design. Say no to the 'slug'."

So there you have it: Say NO to the Slug.
