Junior Hockey Team “Canada” or Team “Western Canada”

On Monday December 6th, Hockey Canada announced the 32 names that will be invited to the final selection camp of Team Canada for the 2005 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships. Of the 32 players invited to the camp, which opens Dec. 12 in Winnipeg, an amazing 21 are from the Western Hockey League. That includes 4 of 4 goaltenders invited, seven of 10 defensemen and 10 of 18 forwards...

This time of the year is suppose to bring us all closer together as we patiently await Christmas day, not for the big jolly guy with the beard, but for the drop of the first puck of the WJHC. But things are different this year, it’s the complete opposite. So far this roster announcement is separating Canada and its hockey supporters more than anything.

To most Canadians, it doesn’t matter where you’re from or what league you play in. If you’re good enough to be at camp and make the team then that’s all they ask but now, less than 24 hours after the camp roster was announced, TSN’s ‘Your Call’ message boards have received 200+ posts about the roster just not for the reasons you might think. Instead of congratulating those who made the list or wishing the team luck at the tournament, I found everyone arguing about why there was so little representation from the OHL and QMJHL compared to the WHL.

Junior Hockey Does the Lockout Affect Junior Hockey?

So I'm at the Wolves' game the other night and am looking in amazement at the lineups at the ticket window. I have my own opinion why attendance is up at Sudbury Arena but since everyone has an opinion, I decided to listen to all of them. The overwhelming consensus here is that people miss the NHL and that this will be their hockey fix. I couldn't disagree more.

Junior Hockey OHL slaps $2,000 fine on Knights

The fine, also levelled at the Windsor Spitfires, is over a shouting incident by the two head coaches following Friday's game.

The London Knights and Windsor Spitfires have each been fined $2,000 by the OHL for an incident involving their coaches Friday night at the John Labatt Centre

Junior Hockey The player who was a sure "Locke" for OHL player of the year!

On April 27th 2004, the OHL announced the name of “player of the year”, one of the most prestigious awards in the Ontario Hockey League. Corey Locke of the Ottawa 67’s was the winner of the Red Tilson Award (player of the year) for the 2003-2004 season. With 51 goals, 61 assists at total of 118 points in 65 games… he tore apart the league to find himself taking the scoring title for his second year in a row.

Junior Hockey OHA and the Royal Bank Cup

With the Aurora Tigers in shambles (losing 90% of their last year players), after what was an exciting year ending in the ultimate victory. The Royal Bank Cup appears to be up for grabs, and a lot of teams seem to be taking this season as their chance to take it home.
