Hockey Lingo
Boys, a member sent this in. This is funny because anyone that came here to GongshowHockey.com and wasn’t really a hockey lad, would have one hell of a time reading this. What a beauty:
Last night we had a late night prakky so me and Stewy were still kinda jacked up and wanted to take a little driveski around town to see what was shaking, so we went over to Hennzies place to have a little chawski. When we got over to Hennzies place, he was having a little shuttsys on the old couch probably after playing a little five on oneski....

Come on in. Don’t take your shoes off though, we are leaving soon. Yeah that’s fresh cut cedar, smells good eh? We always use it to get the fire going, remember? Do you want something to drink or you good to go? Mom where’s my toque? Hold on I gotta find a puck, I think there’s one back behind the shed. Alright got it – You ready? |

The old Nintendo system I found while at home had to be one of the best things to do besides my rod hockey table. I mean, NHL 2005 online is fun (I’m username gonger4 if you’re playing online) but it’s still nice to go back where it all started… Blaaades ooooof Steeeeeel!

Ah… this game is just as gorgeous, as when it came out January ’88, getting to pick from eight NHL cities (they didn’t to get the NHL license to able to use the team names and logos) you controlled one player and your goalie at all times, pretty tricky! Not exactly the most advanced computer to play against though, if you just skate in circles the computer blindly follows you, and can never seem to understand the concept that he’s never going to catch you as you’re just killing time with a 3-0 lead in the final game of Tournament mode, sucker :P… This game didn’t disappoint in giving the full experience of the game of hockey... that’s right... you get to chuck the ‘nucks when the time comes up. Its simple fighting system of either blocking/punching high or low, can’t really seem to be improved, which is the exact same way you fight in NHL 2005! |

 | During my trip home for Easter (yes, my team is already knocked out of the playoffs :() I found some old hockey videos, not just "Rockem’ Sockem’ One" (a beauty if there ever was one), but also some old home videos from tyke and novice games that really brought me back.
Coming from a year in junior where the focus was anywhere but on the ice, where politics and money brought a team that was ranked twelfth nationally to cellar, the video reminded me how beautifully simple things were back then. Everything was for the pure love of playing hockey.... |
Back in the day you’d run around skating your ass off for an hour, get off the ice with just as much energy as you came on with, that big smile on your face, and not a scratch on you to boot! Of course the protection came from that sweet mixture of garage sale and hand-me-down gear, none of which had as much plastic as the huge pads today. The days where the secret weapon wasn’t some new $350 stick made of space-age materials, it was the flick shot that could beat that damn goalie who figured out that he could just lay across the ice and have a better save percentage than Luongo. |

Writen and Contributed by: Steve Dunphy (a.k.a Dubs) | The water was Calm, The sun was above the horizon, and the hooks were baited. I sat there along side my buddy and team mate "Heater". Both of us sportin cargo shorts with a fishin cap and our hockey team T-shirts in his brand new lund fishing boat. It had everything, everything from a little container to keep our fish alive till we head home for the day, a fridge for the many a beer we drank, and most importantly the ability to move us around from spot to spot to drop our lines. Sittin in that fishin' chair along side Heater, a bottle of Bud, and yes my lip packed with Cope long made for some special times. Spittin over the side of the boat made for easy goin's....not that i was catchin' too much, but i never had to put the rod down to grab my spit can. |
